The Old Goat's Adventures
The Billy Goat's 1/2 Marathon is an out and back on the Indian Truck Trail in the Cleveland National Forest. The King and Queen of the Hill prizes go to the first man and woman who reach the top of the trail in the fastest times. Age group awards for the round trip.
How many loops of a 1.0 mile trail can solo runners and/or teams of four complete in 24 hours? Teams may be all men, all women, and mixed. There will be a concurrent 12 hour race/relay
Old Goat's Misadventures
Old Goat's often seek unusual places to practise their sport and not all of those places are open to competative events. The Grand Canyon is a good example. Though running R2R (rim to rim) is one of those achievements all ultrarunners aspire to, it can also be the source of a lot of grief, especially for the person who organizes a group event.
The Forest Service folks are a clever lot. When a bus arrives and disgorges thirty or forty runners they assume this is an organized event and have been known to handcuff whoever is in charge... Moral - don't arrive en mass, don't be in charge, and never tell the Rangers that it is a free country!.
